SENNELLIER YUM!

Today's challenge is to find a motif on the chair & use Sennellier Oil pastels with a Kor-i-noor wash over
The wood of my chair has many motifs but I chose this one

I love the wood grain & the deep shadows caused by the incising - Soldering iron here I come!

Remember this challenge is 5 minutes - gulp

This is the underpainting

Frantic scribbles, trying to get some form in the design

Final splodge of colour, this was still wet when photographed

Evaluation:  5 minutes ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Got some form in the black & gold oil pastels so am pleased with that

Needed more time for the wash

However, this is good discipline, because I would have faffed and faffed

Sunday is stitching, check back to see what we do, wonder what Dale has done today?

LATE SKETCHING

Graphitint pencils.  Ordinary pencils are made of graphite, these are graphite with pigment & are also water activated.  Here I have used a water pen

This is the angle of the chair that I chose today

I do like the feet of this chair,

Capturing the angle is what appeals the most

This is the under pencil before activation

So hard to do in 5 minutes, the shadows became urgent marks aka scribbles!

I could not leave it like this so added another few minutes using the water pen

These pencils have a lovely matt effect.  they can be bought singly, which is what I had before the lovely pressie.

Trying to get form & shadow in such a short time is very difficult, but good discipline

Have not seen Dales yet, so am looking forward to seeing it now.

Have a go at doing this, take a small detail & explore using the wonderful Graphitint pencils

Day 3 from Dale

It's a bit cold here so I thought my chair needed room for 2 - I used Graphitints and found that 5 minutes went pretty fast once again. My chair is expanding sideways but Alice in Wonderlanding downwards.

DAY 2 - SUNDAY

I chose a different angle of 'ye chosen chair'

Sitting on the floor gives a good perspective

My husband is a draughtsman & he has been teaching me about the oblique angle

So I chose to start with the right hand 45 degree angle

Fine Pitt Pen this time, fabulous to work with, just like a pencil

This was 5 minutes whilst my breakfast of gruel was in the microwave, so the timer pinged

I really like this, I could see this in stitch

Then I added colour with INKTENSE pencils, I must admit that I spent another 5 minutes on this & as they ae Inktense cant go back and take the colour down a shade unless I cream or white it

Today I have learnt that:  I love the fine pen, I can get the perspective right & use to better paper to get a better wash finish.

Day 2 chair from Dale

5 minutes still goes terrifically fast - permanet black pen with Inktense Blocks to colour. Feels like it is getting ready for stitching but not yet. Wonder what Shelagh has been up to?

DAY ONE - SHELAGH

Up early after a very late night, looking for Khadi book & it was found, but had already been started!!
So I have decided to use the landscape Seawhite book, which has quite thin pages.  I may have to glue 2 together sometimes
This is the chair that I have chosen

It is a sitting room chair and has leather seats & an Oak frame.  Reminds me of the Morris chair from the last post.  Has circles & spirals carved into the frame

I sprayed my page with Dales Starburst sprays.  I had already done this, being of the impatient kind, a few days ago, so the page was dry.  I used a stencil flapped over the wet spray to give some marks to the page & concentrate the mica powder
I selected a rather difficult medium to sketch with - Faber Castell Pitt pen Indian Ink - black BROAD.  This is like sketching with a felt tip pen as the nib is thick
Still this is a challenge & I feel up for it!!

So 5 minutes on the clock (wow its 'Never been Kissed again! lol')
Sitting in the sunshine on the floor & away I go
Here is the result.....

I chose to use the A5 landscape pad in this orientation & to crop my drawing

EVALUATION:

1 5 Minutes is so quick its frightening

2 Really thick pen difficult to get any shading

3 Positive marks

4 Urgent Line

5 Coloured page works really well

6 Straight line is an odd angle

Dale chair 5 min sketch

a 5minute start on a sprayed background with a permanent pen - better be more specific
Sitting out in the rain because the chair was - as Shelagh says 5 mins is frightenly fast and a permament marker means no rubbing out so you are stuffed from the start. sprayed colour is a new starburst colour - a bit of bubbly - but potential for creating a stencil or a stamp for outline stitch.
